Book Haul & Chat

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Hey everyone! I wanted to do something different and share with you some books I just got. I’ve been in the mood to read lately so I went a little crazy at Barnes & Noble. Let’s get into it.

I’ll start with the books I’ve started or finished first.

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling –  (I actually purchased this at Target) I’ve only read the first chapter of this book but so far I am loving it! I usually don’t buy celebrity books, but if you’ve been following me for a while now then you know I love Mindy Kaling. I think she’s absolutely hilarious and such a brilliant writer. The book is all about her life and career. Even from the first chapter I could tell just how funny it is!

Unteachable by Leah Raeder – I just finished this book yesterday and I absolutely loved it. Unteachable is about 18 year old high school senior, Maise O’Malley. At a town carnival she meets an older man, Evan, who she immediately has a connection with. They wind up sleeping together that night- however everything changes when on the first day of school they both discover he is her new film class teacher. Of course they both know it’s wrong to see each other but they can’t resist. And I’ll stop there. *I will say though that if you’re on the younger side or if you’re thinking about buying it for someone, I would be mindful! There are some explicit sex “scenes” that may not be appropriate for everyone.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins –  Another great book! I finished reading this book last week and flew through it. It’s about a woman named Rachel, a struggling alcoholic, who rides the same train everyday. Everyday she passes the same houses and during each train ride she fantasizes about a couple who lives in one of the homes. She creates a life for them in her head and even makes up names for them- “Jess and Jason”. To her, they have the perfect life and relationship. Expect on one particular day she sees something shocking. She only has a moment to look, as the train continues passing but that’s enough to get her involved in what becomes a police investigation. I actually just found out they’re making a movie of this book, starring Emily Blunt as Rachel, so definitely check this out before the film comes out later this year!

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell  – I finished this book about a month ago. Eleanor & Park is a story about two high school misfits who fall in love. They’re not your typical couple and they may be young but their love for one another is strong and really special to see develop throughout the book. It did have some slow moments but overall I did enjoy it!

Here are the other books that I haven’t got around to starting yet.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn  – I’m sure you’ve all heard about this book already. But, if you don’t know, it’s recently been made into a movie starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. It’s about a married couple, Amy and Nick, who are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary when Amy disappears. The mystery is whether or not her husband, Nick, is responsible.

The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma  –  I bought this book not really based on anything. I’ve never heard of it or seen it around anywhere. It’s a little hard to explain what its about so I’ll just let you read the overview on Barnes & Noble haha. Seems pretty cool, right?

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire  –  This is the first book in a series, which I didn’t know when I first bought this, but I’m looking forward to seeing if I like it! It’s about good girl Abby Abernathy who gets involved with bad boy Travis Maddox through a bet. Abby doesn’t curse or drink and Travis is their university’s “walking one night stand”. If he loses the bet he has to stay abstinent for a month, but if Abby loses she has to live with him in his apartment for a month. Hmm. Should be interesting.

That concludes this post! If you made it to the end, thank you. I know this was a long one. Let me know if you’ve read any of these and your thoughts! I’d love to talk about them with you! Also, if you have any recommendations of other books let a girl know.

Happy Sunday.

Thanks for reading. Big love,

Curly Hair Products

Hey guys, happy 2016! I’m back with a post all about curly hair. I made a post like this a while ago but have since deleted it. I thought it would be best to rewrite an updated one because I’ve been really loving the products this time around! Let’s get started.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Okay, so I’m sure you’ve noticed a lot of Shea Moisture. Just a disclaimer- I am not being sponsored by them or anything like that. The company has no idea I exist haha. I’ve always been genuinely interested in their products, so I finally decided to give them a try.

Let’s start with Shampoo and Conditioner:

If you remember, I already mentioned the Yucca & Plantain Collection in my “Current Favorites” post where I showed you guys the masque.

I’m giving the shampoo and conditioner a try and so far I really like it! I picked this collection in particular because it was catered to strengthening and thickening. Although I do have very curly hair, its not as thick as most people would assume. I haven’t been using them for too long but I have noticed a slight difference and that makes me happy! I’ve noticed my hair is getting a little more voluminous, which is a step in the right direction!

Also, I just absolutely adore that Shea Moisture’s products are all natural and organic! Nothing is better than seeing “No sulfates, no parabens, no phthalates, no paraffin, no propylene glycol, no mineral oil, no synthetic fragrance, no synthetic color, no DEA, AND no animal testing” on all of their products. Wow.

Leave in Conditioner:

I’m sure those of you with curly hair are with me when I say how important a leave in conditioner is in our hair routines. About two weeks ago I picked up the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Growth & Restore Leave-in Conditioner. That’s a mouth full. I LOVE this stuff! This helps so much with frizz and taming my curls! I don’t even need to add that much product after I use this because it works so well on its own. The only downside I would say is the smell. It’s not my favorite scent- it kind of reminds me of Play-Doh- BUT I can live with it. It really isn’t that bad.

Styling Product:

First let me just start off by saying I am all for curl creams. I will never go back to gel or mouse or anything else. Creams have changed my curly hair life and I will never look back haha. I’ve been using this particular one by Curls for a few years now, actually! This is their Crème Brule Whipped Curl Cream. (I couldn’t find this exact product on their website, but I provided a link from Target.) Like I said, I’ve been using this for years and I still love it! Part of me wants to try something new but I never wind up buying anything else!

That’s everything! I like to try new things here and there but these are the main products I use on an almost everyday basis. If you have curly hair, let me know what you use! I would love to know! If you have any other questions about these products or my hair in general, feel free to ask.

Here’s my hair now:

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and found it somewhat helpful! Have a great rest of the week.

Pinterest Inspired Makeup Look

Hey guys! I was scrolling through Pinterest, as you do when you can’t sleep, and I came across this beautiful green makeup look. So of course, I wanted to recreate it! Here’s where I got the inspiration:

pinterest green makeup

Here’s what I came up with:

I used the Tartelette palette on my crease and the 4th Edition 120 Color Palette by BH Cosmetics on the lid for the green.

My liquid eyeliner skills are poor so I was not brave enough to risk messing up my eyeshadow to do a wing haha!

You guys know I rarely use any color, so this was pretty dramatic for me. I really enjoyed it, though! This look can be perfect for New Year’s Eve, as well!

Hope you enjoyed this look, and I hope you’ve all had a great Holiday season. This is probably my last post of 2015, so happy new year to you! Thank you for the support. I’m excited to see what 2016 has in store.

Colourpop: stingRAYE

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Hey everyone! When I saw ItsMyRayeRaye’s collaboration with Colourpop Cosmetics I fell in love! Raye seems like such a sweet and humble person, so I was more than happy to support her, especially with such a gorgeous color.

What I love about this color is that it looks so different- but so gorgeous- on every skin tone.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

If I’m being completely honest, I think it looks prettier on deeper skin tones than on my personally, but I am so incredibly happy with this color! Here’s it swatched on my hand.

On my lips it looks a lot more purple-toned, though.

Guys. Just a warning if you’ve never owned a Colourpop liquid lipstick before, they are liquidy! I accidentally spilled it all of my jeans and made a huge mess! So now unfortunately I don’t have much left, but that’s completely my fault… I’m super clumsy haha. Thankfully Colourpop is extremely affordable (only $6) so I can easily buy another when I run out.

If you’re interested you can purchase stingRaye here.

What do you think of the color? Hope you enjoyed this post! See you next time.

December Boxycharm

Hi guys! I’m so excited about this month’s Boxycharm! So let’s get right into it.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

This month’s theme is “Pop Fizz Clink”- 1920’s inspired.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

First are these face products.

I absolutely love the packaging of these Tatcha Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers. They’re great to just throw in your purse and keep for when you need to get rid of some excess oil throughout the day. These retail for $12.

Next is the Mullein & Sparrow Mini Facial Mask. I was a bit confused because inside is a powder, but fear not, all you have to do is add water and you’re good to go. I’ve been super into the idea of face masks lately so I am really excited to try this out! I believe I linked the full size one, but the mini retails for $15.

How cute is this little Jelly Pong Pong All Over Glow highlighter? I’m basically obsessed with all the packaging in this month’s box haha. This is a really pretty and light cream highlight. Surprisingly enough, this is my first ever highligher so I was pretty happy to see this in the box.

On the right is the Nelson J Beverly Hills Moisture Healing Mask. Again, super excited to try this out as well! Not only is this a hair mask, but it can also protect your hair against Chlorine and salt water damage! How cool is that? Maybe I’ll try and save some of this to last until the summer haha.

Last but not least are the lip products.

I freaked out when I saw an Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick was included in this month’s box!!! This is in the shade “Americano” and I absolutely love it! I’ve tried Ofra’s liquid lipsticks before and they are such good quality. They retail at $19.90.

And lastly, the Bellapierre Waterproof Gel Lip Liner in “Cinnamon” -which pairs nicely with “Americano”. Not much to say other than all around this is a great lip liner! This retails for $17.99

Alright, that is everything! I’d say this box has been one of my favorites, however I am always pleasantly surprised with Boxycharm. By the way, if you don’t know, Boxycharm is a monthly subscription service that costs $21 a month. If you’re interested, you can subscribe here. Overall this month’s box was worth about $104.00!

Hope you enjoyed this post! Did you like this month’s box? Did I get something different than you? Let me know! Hope you have a great week.

Tartelette

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Hey guys! If you follow me on Instagram (simplyfearfully), then you already saw I treated myself to this beauty!  I’ve been in search for a new eyeshadow palette. I know Tarte just came out with a new Tartelette, but I decided on the first one because it was a bit cheaper at the time and also all matte- which I love.

If you’re interested, you can get the palette here.

The shadows are absolutely beautiful! I have yet to create a full-on look but I’ve used a few of the colors to warm up my crease a few times. So far I am super impressed! The shadows are so pigmented and blend nicely. I can’t wait to create a look to share with you all! Do you have any of the Tartelette palettes?

Have an incredible weekend!

Current Favorites

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Hey guys, welcome back. I’ve been loving a lot of new stuff lately and wanted to share with you some of my current favorites. So, let’s get into it!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

It’s only fitting that I start with the makeup. These are two lip products. The first is a Manna Kadar lip gloss stain in the shade “Lucky”. This was actually in last month’s Boxycharm! I seriously love this color. Its perfect for everyday.

The next is a Palladio Velvet Matte cream lip color in “Angora”. For the price ($7.00) this product is pretty good! It dries matte of course, which I love and is such a nice shade of red. I love this color for this time of year.

Next up are all about m’ curly locks!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I never used a diffuser on my hair. I would always just air dry but I HATE going out in public with my hair wet. So a few weeks ago I just decided to go ahead and buy one and man, am I loving it! It has made my life so much easier. This diffuser actually came with a blow dryer I purchased at a beauty supply store by the brand Hot Shot Tools.

Next is the Anti-Breaking Strengthening Masque by Shea Moisture. So far I have only used this once but I already really like it! It made my hair feel so soft and took away a lot of frizz. I also have the shampoo and conditioner from their Yucca and Plantain line. I am so happy with these products. Let me know if you’re interested in a more in depth post about these hair products or just an in-general update on my curls.

Movin’ on to some accessories!

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

First are the pearl stud earrings. I got these from Old Navy (which has a bangin’ jewelry selection btw!). I am SO into this style with the big pearl in the back, YAS.

Another earring trend I have been obsessing over are cuffs! This ear cuff is from Forever 21. This is my first but definitely not my last purchase of an ear cuff because I am officially in love! I can’t find the exact one but if you go on their website and search “ear cuff”, they have a bunch of ’em!

Not much to say about this phone case other than the fact that I love it so much haha. I got it from Amazon and to be honest I would link it but there’s no way I can find it again- sorry!

And of course I had to include a nail polish. This is from OPI’s Infinite Shine collection in “You Can Count On It”. Its the perfect pinky-nude color. I always get compliments when I wear it.

Last but not least,

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, then you know I love Mindy Kaling. I usually don’t buy celebrity books, but I had to support my girl and get her book Why Not Me -and I’m so glad I did! I haven’t finished it yet but so far, so good! So freakin’ good. And funny.

Who doesn’t love candles?! I’m new to the candle game but I am fully addicted. This is in the scent Sugar Blossom from Signature Soy at Target. Smells heavenly and gives my room a nice relaxing vibe.

Quick side note before I wrap this up. I wanted to give an honorable mention to the CW show Jane The Virgin. I binge watched the first season on Netflix, then caught up on season 2 on Hulu. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW! Being Latina myself, this show just makes me extra happy. And I am in love with the cast, especially the lovely and incredible Gina Rodriguez. But I will stop myself here, as I can go on forever.

Alright, you’ve made it to the end! That’s everything I’ve been lovin’ this past month. What are some of your favorites? Are you also a fan of Jane The Virgin? Hope you have an awesome week.

Thanks for reading. Big love,

Briana x
