Life Update

Hi everyone! So here I go again, apologizing for not posting in a long time. I’m sorry! I wanted to give you guys a little update on what’s been going on. If you’ve been following my posts for a while then you may know I used to go to University- however I had to terminate my enrollment due to financial struggles. Well, I am so excited to share that I will be returning to school in the Fall! I am completely overwhelmed and just so excited and grateful for the opportunity to go back! It’s something I never thought would happen.

I do plan to continue blogging while at school however I don’t know how that is going to actually turn out. I know I will be cancelling my Boxycharm subscription while I’m gone (unfortunately), so those posts will no longer be happening. And I already know “face of the day” posts are going to be difficult to continue. BUT I will try to post whenever and whatever I can! So feel free to come along for the ride with me. I’d love to continue sharing bits of my life with you. BTW- I’m not leaving until August so none of this will be changing until then!

Thank you so much for the continued support, no matter how small this little ol’ blog is, it means the world to see you reading and commenting.

Again, I’m sorry I haven’t been consistent with posts but I’m still here! I have no plans on going anywhere, either (;

Hope you’re all well. Have an amazing rest of the week!

Thanks for reading. Big love,

Current Favorites

Hey guys, welcome back. I’ve been loving a lot of new stuff lately and wanted to share with you some of my current favorites. So, let’s get into it!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

It’s only fitting that I start with the makeup. These are two lip products. The first is a Manna Kadar lip gloss stain in the shade “Lucky”. This was actually in last month’s Boxycharm! I seriously love this color. Its perfect for everyday.

The next is a Palladio Velvet Matte cream lip color in “Angora”. For the price ($7.00) this product is pretty good! It dries matte of course, which I love and is such a nice shade of red. I love this color for this time of year.

Next up are all about m’ curly locks!

I never used a diffuser on my hair. I would always just air dry but I HATE going out in public with my hair wet. So a few weeks ago I just decided to go ahead and buy one and man, am I loving it! It has made my life so much easier. This diffuser actually came with a blow dryer I purchased at a beauty supply store by the brand Hot Shot Tools.

Next is the Anti-Breaking Strengthening Masque by Shea Moisture. So far I have only used this once but I already really like it! It made my hair feel so soft and took away a lot of frizz. I also have the shampoo and conditioner from their Yucca and Plantain line. I am so happy with these products. Let me know if you’re interested in a more in depth post about these hair products or just an in-general update on my curls.

Movin’ on to some accessories!

First are the pearl stud earrings. I got these from Old Navy (which has a bangin’ jewelry selection btw!). I am SO into this style with the big pearl in the back, YAS.

Another earring trend I have been obsessing over are cuffs! This ear cuff is from Forever 21. This is my first but definitely not my last purchase of an ear cuff because I am officially in love! I can’t find the exact one but if you go on their website and search “ear cuff”, they have a bunch of ’em!

Not much to say about this phone case other than the fact that I love it so much haha. I got it from Amazon and to be honest I would link it but there’s no way I can find it again- sorry!

And of course I had to include a nail polish. This is from OPI’s Infinite Shine collection in “You Can Count On It”. Its the perfect pinky-nude color. I always get compliments when I wear it.

Last but not least,

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, then you know I love Mindy Kaling. I usually don’t buy celebrity books, but I had to support my girl and get her book Why Not Me -and I’m so glad I did! I haven’t finished it yet but so far, so good! So freakin’ good. And funny.

Who doesn’t love candles?! I’m new to the candle game but I am fully addicted. This is in the scent Sugar Blossom from Signature Soy at Target. Smells heavenly and gives my room a nice relaxing vibe.

Quick side note before I wrap this up. I wanted to give an honorable mention to the CW show Jane The Virgin. I binge watched the first season on Netflix, then caught up on season 2 on Hulu. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW! Being Latina myself, this show just makes me extra happy. And I am in love with the cast, especially the lovely and incredible Gina Rodriguez. But I will stop myself here, as I can go on forever.

Alright, you’ve made it to the end! That’s everything I’ve been lovin’ this past month. What are some of your favorites? Are you also a fan of Jane The Virgin? Hope you have an awesome week.

Thanks for reading. Big love,

When things don’t go as planned.

Hi guys! So, here comes another one of those posts haha. I have been thinking about writing this for a while, but haven’t really felt compelled to actually do it until now. And I wanted to share a little more of my heart with you all.

In life, whether we realize it or not, we come up with some sort of set exceptions of how we see our life happening. Like for example, graduating high school, going to college, starting your career, getting married and having kids. At least for me it went something like that. And I was on track of following that “template”. After high school I went straight to college. I started my first semester at an incredible university and fell in love with my life there. I expected to have figured out a major by the end of my sophomore year and oh- I even expected to meet my future husband. HA. Little did I know, in reality that was NOT the plan at all.

Fast forward to now, a year later and I am back at home, unable to return to school after just one semester because of financial issues. (But I won’t get into all that boring stuff.) Are ya still with me? This all has a point, I’m getting there I promise.

So here I am back at square one wondering which direction my life is headed. So often when we have these expectations about how life should happen we are so wrong. Thankfully for us, we have a gracious God who so carefully has a plan for each of our lives. He knew even before I applied to that university that I would only spend one semester there. And He knew every detail about what is happening in your life right now.

To be honest, I’m writing this almost as a way to remind myself. We all have moments where we feel discouraged and defeated. I would be lying if I said that the fact that I’m not in school with everyone else didn’t make me feel embarrassed or left out. It’s something that I am struggling with still almost a year later. Of course I would love to say that I am a sophomore in college, however if I’m not there it is because God has something even greater in store.

God knows every piece of your puzzle. He will make sure that whatever needs to happen in your life to get you to your calling will happen. He will not leave you hanging. It may not look like what you planned or even wanted but that just means He already had something better. Everything will pay off. For me and for you.

And if you don’t believe in God I think the same still holds true. The beauty of life is that everything always works itself out. So keep on doing the right thing and be patient. And in the meantime I’ll pray that one day you will come to know Jesus on a personal level (;.

Wow, you made it to the end. Thank you so much! I hope you were able to take something out of my rambling late-night thoughts. Did I even make sense? I don’t know haha. I say this every time I write posts like these, but thank you again for being open to hearing(more like reading) pieces my heart on a personal level and not just the makeup/beauty side. But of course I’ll be back to those posts very soon. Have an amazing rest of the week.

Thanks for reading. Big love,

Being an introvert.

“After an hour or two of being socially on, we introverts need to turn off and recharge… this isn’t antisocial. It isn’t a sign of depression.” -Jonathan Rauch

Hey everyone! So this post is a little bit random and totally off topic to what I usually do, but its something that has been on my mind. I wanted to speak out to my fellow introverts out there. But also to those who are the complete opposite.

Okay, so what even is an introvert? According to, an introvert isa person characterized by concern primarily with his or her own thoughts and feelings”

Being one personally, I get comments a lot from family and friends such as “Briana is always in her room” or “Briana never likes to do anything”. And I would be lying if I said it doesn’t bother me sometimes. Why? Because it makes me feel so misunderstood.

Let’s just start by saying I love people haha. I love being around friends and family. I love going out and having fun. And just like most introverts, I am completely socially capable of being around new people. But the difference is, we need alone time. The quote above said it perfectly- “we need to turn off and recharge”. I know for me, if I don’t get that time to myself, I can get overwhelmed and unfortunately sometimes that gets taken the wrong way.

Being that most of my family are not introverts, I’ve noticed a lot more lately that I am often misunderstood. The fact that I am perfectly happy being alone in my room seems weird to them. It comes across as secluded, rude, boring, lazy and sometimes like I think I am above everyone else.  That of course is not the case at all. My room is my happy place. I am so content being alone. But of course, like I mentioned before, that doesn’t mean I never want to spend time with people too. Its all about that time to refuel.

So. Why did I even write this post? Well one, I wanted to express myself. That’s what I love about having my own blog. Yes, this post isn’t about makeup or fashion, but I hope you guys can appreciate little bits of my heart and mind every once in a while. Two, I wanted other people like this to realize they’re not antisocial or weird for being okay with being alone. I found that after hearing those comments every once in a while from family that I started to question myself. I started to feel more like an alien and thought that maybe I was doing something wrong.

Yes, I understand that there are way more important, pressing issues going on in the world. But, to anyone who can relate to anything in this post- don’t let anyone make you  feel like you’re a weirdo for wanting- or needing- time alone. Its so important for everyone to listen to your self and understand what your mind and soul needs. And I hope that maybe if you’re a person who is the complete opposite that this was a least a little helpful or insightful about maybe someone you know.

And of course to end it all, just like how not all introverts are antisocial loners- not all extroverts are party animals who have a fear of being alone. I completely understand and respect that.

If you made it this far, wow! Thanks for listening. I promise I’ll be back with more beauty and fashion posts soon. Hope you’re doing great.

Thanks for reading. Big love,

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Tag

Hey guys! I got tagged by the lovely makeupwithmakenna to do this cute tag! I thought this would also be a nice way to get to know me a little bit better through these fun questions she asked! So let’s get started.

Makenna’s questions:

  1. Best dessert you’ve ever eaten?

Ah I can’t decide on just one! I really like the chocolate mousse shooters from Applebee’s though!

2. Your #1 celebrity crush, and why that person is your #1

I’m one of those people who crushes on a bunch of celebrities haha so this is also a hard question. I’d say right now it is Stephen Amell. He plays Oliver Queen on the CW’s “Arrow”- one of my favorite shows. He’s a great actor and does so much to support charities (like with his “Sinceriously” Campaign) AND he is super active with his fans on Facebook – which I LOVE! … And of course he is ridiculously handsome. Like extremely.

3. Favorite color to wear on your nails?

I love the color Periwinkle! I’ve mentioned a Milani nail polish called “Peri-wink” a few times on my blog actually- that’s how much I love it! haha

4. Early bird or night owl?

Honestly, I just get cranky when I’m tired in general haha. But I guess I do prefer the day time -for the most part.

5. Would you rather read a book or watch TV?

I absolutely love reading but watching TV shows is an obsession of mine. Between Netflix, Hulu and actual TV- I watch a lot of really good shows!

6. Favorite artist, how long have they been your favorite?

This is so hard to answer, as music is a passion of mine. But if I HAD to just pick one atrist it would be Johnnyswim. I’ve posted about them before, but basically they’re a husband and wife duo and are absolutely amazing. I’ve been a fan for about 3 or 4 years I think. But I have to mention Paramore who are another fav and have been for about 6 years.

7. Favorite Holiday?

8. Favorite full body outfit (regardless of the current season)

I love a good pair of skinny jeans, boots, cardigan and infinity scarf! I feel the most comfortable in layers.

9. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Oh man, I don’t know. Maybe stretching powers when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to get out of bed to grab something haha … kidding. Or the obvious answer of flight. There’s just too many cool and useful powers out there to pick one!

10.  Simple jewelry, or layered, chunky jewelry?

Simple! You’ll usually find me wearing stud earrings, a bracelet or two and maybe even sometimes a necklace. (haha)

That’s the end of it! If I tag you and you have been tagged to do this already, I apologize. Also, if you’re tagged its totally cool if you don’t want to do the tag- but if you do, answer my 10 questions below then come up with 10 questions of your own and tag 10 other people!

I tag:

(I know its supposed to be 10 people but I could only come up with 5 -sorry!)

  1. An Oklahoma Girl
  2. TheCurly and TheStraight
  3. Ok, Keep it Real
  4. Lipstick Lovely
  5. The Sartorial Coquette

My Questions

1. What is your favorite song at the moment?

2. Favorite TV show?

3. What is your favorite clothing store?

4. What is your dream job?

5. Why did you start your blog?

6. What is one must have beauty item and fashion item for you?

7. Do you have a favorite YouTuber?

8. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would it be and why?

9. Do you like to read? What is your favorite book?

10. If you could, what would you tell your younger self?

That concludes everything! I know this was a super long post. Thanks again to makeupwithmakenna for tagging me! Hope you enjoyed this post.

Thanks for reading. Big love,

Everybody Needs Encouragement.

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all well. So. Encouragement. That’s what I want to talk about in this late-night post. I know this isn’t my usual post but things like this will probably pop up on here every once in a while. I was blessed enough to have heard a great message all about encouragement at my University by the lovely Ben Gutierrez. It was in such perfect timing as well because it was during a rough season for me. Its so important in life to remember that everyone is going through something. Everyone has struggles and hardships you may never know anything about. And because of just that, everybody needs encouragement.

I know for me personally when I was going through rough times, I could never express just how grateful I was to have such awesome friends by my side. I cannot tell you how good it felt to get a text here and there from a friend just saying “Hey, I love you and I’m praying for you”, or even just a quick “Hey, how are you doing?”. I don’t know about you but getting that support, love, and just an extra push from the people you love can really change my attitude and make me feel so much better.

At one point during the message Ben said something that has really stuck with me. When he brought up the question of “How do we tangibly feel God’s encouragement?” His simple answer: “through people” instantly got me emotional. I realized God had provided so much love and support through the incredible friends (and family) He has placed into my life.

Now, I don’t want to push my beliefs on anyone. Whether you believe in God or not, I think the value of friendship and encouraging/being there for one another is something all people can appreciate. But I pray that one day you will come to know God and all of His goodness.

So point of the story is: Its okay to feel like you need some help. Its okay to want encouragement and support from others. And its also important to pour into and give that to people as well. Sometimes its hard to know what to say to comfort someone but sometimes you don’t have to say a word. Just being there can be enough.

I would like to end this on a cheesy note by saying that if you’re going through something at the moment you can will get through it. You are loved so much. Probably more than you even realize.

Thanks for reading. Big love,

Briana x

Starting Anew

Hi! So here I am a few years later. I made this blog not really knowing what I was doing or what my goal was (not much has changed) and it kind of just disappeared. But alas, here I am. Still not with a cut and clear vision but nonetheless inspired. Since you last heard from me I graduated high school and started college. I went away to University and fell in love with my life there. However, life happens and I was not able to return for the Spring semester. It was an extremely hard time for me because I did love being away so much and I made such great friends but God had other plans! Very long story (kind of) short, my plan was to return this upcoming Fall semester but, it again has not worked out so I’m back at square one! I’m in this gap period of my life where I am trying to figure out my future and what God has planned for me. Young peeps, I’m sure you can relate to the feeling of “oh my gosh I have no idea of what to do with my life!!!”.

So the point is.. I figured while I’m home for this period of time I wanted to share my life, my interests, my God, what I’ve learned and all together who I am. So I’m back. And I hope we can do something fun and cool and inspiring together. Because I’m in a bit of a transitioning season in my life.. to say the least.

*Oh so I thought It would be a good idea to tell you what I’m interested in aka what I’ll most likely be bringing to my blog, DUH. I love Jesus a whole lot, makeup, fashion, music, TV shows (a little too much) & the list goes on. If we have any of those things in common, let’s be friends!

Big love,

Briana x
